Largest Meta advertisers in the UK 2018-2022

The leading Meta advertiser in the United Kingdom (UK) between November 2018 and April 2022 was World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) UK, with a spending of 4.16 million British pounds. The Scottish Government and the International Rescue Committee UK followed, with expenditures of 2.29 million and 2.33 million, respectively.  

UK leads social media advertising market

As of 2020, the UK is market leader when it comes to social media advertising in Europe. It is estimated to bring in a revenue of nearly six billion U.S. dollars by the end of the year, over three times that of Germany in second place. Facebook is the biggest player when it comes to social media advertising in the UK, with an estimated 80 percent market share. This is followed by Twitter, LinkedIn and Snapchat, at 5 percent market share each.

Mobile advertising and its audience

Where will most of the revenue made through social media come from? Forecasts show that mobile advertising will continue to account for the majority of revenue generated within the UK, compared to desktop. By 2024, this is expected to reach 5.6 billion U.S. dollars while desktop will account for nearly 2.3 billion. As of January 2020, millennials aged between 25 to 34 years made up social media advertising’s largest audience. This was followed by those aged 35 to 44.
