Indonesia is the largest palm oil producer in the world, while its forest make up the third largest tropical forests in the world. In 2019, around 426 thousand hectares of forested area in Central Kalimantan were used for planting oil palm, through the location and plantation business permit. Although the practice of clearing rainforest for palm oil production has led to some backlash against products with palm oil, palm oil production in Indonesia had been steadily increasing in the last few years.
