Indonesia is the world's largest palm oil producer, while its forests are the third largest tropical forests in the world. In 2019, the largest planted area of oil palm located in forested areas was in East Kotawaringin district, Central Kalimantan. Although the practice of clearing rainforest for palm oil production has led to some backlash against products with palm oil, palm oil production in Indonesia had been steadily increasing in the last few years.
