In 2018, production of cocoa certified by the UTZ program in Mexico attained an amount of 771 metric tons, a decrease of nearly 16 percent in comparison to the previous year, when production totaled 915 metric tons.
UTZ (formerly called UTZ Certified) is a program which certifies goods and services that meet certain social, environmental, and economical sustainability standards. Since January 2018, UTZ has merged with the Rainforest Alliance organization.
