Russia: dream domestic cultural travel destinations 2019

The most preferred cultural travel destination among Russians within their country was Saint Petersburg, which nearly 60 percent of survey participants wanted to visit as of 2019. Saint Petersburg is referred to as Russia's cultural capital, and its State Hermitage was listed the seventh most popular museum in Europe in 2018, counting approximately 4.3 million yearly visitors. Furthermore, under a quarter of respondents named Moscow as their dream domestic location for cultural tourism and sightseeing. With over 260 museums located in the city, Russia's capital ranked second among cities with the highest number of museums worldwide in 2019.
