According to a survey released by Ipsos in November 2019, around 43 percent of Japanese respondents agreed that since the digital revolution is making direct democracy possible, Japan should consider reducing the powers of elected officials in order for the citizens to have a more direct say in how the country is governed. Approximately nine percent strongly agreed with this statement.
