In fiscal year 2018, around 1.6 billion Japanese yen were paid as subsidies for improving the performances of athletes competing in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. In the same year, the subsidies for athletes competing in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics amounted to approximately six billion yen.
The subsidies are conducted by Japan Sports Council (JSC) utilizing the money provided by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT).
