By 2050, it is expected that U.S. cities will experience an average of 58 dangerous heat days each year. For some cities, such as those in warmer climate regions in the South, the number will be even greater. The prediction is based on the warming that 133 cities in the United States will experience due to increased greenhouse gas emissions. The United States has some of the highest rates of greenhouse gas emissions in the world.

* A dangerous heat day occurs when a heat index level of 104 degrees Fahrenheit has been surpassed. The heat index refers to real feel temperature that takes into consideration humidity as well as temperature. Figures for 2030 and 2050 are forecasted.
