While Malaysia had made significant progress in the past few years in reducing gender inequality, the level of inequality between men and women is still high compared to other developed countries. In a survey on women's equality conducted by Ipsos in 2019, the most important area to achieve gender equality over the next 25 years as perceived among Malaysian respondents was women being represented in government and politics, with 42 percent of respondents sharing this view.
