Payment card use in Luxembourg in 2020, based on volume
Debit or credit card transactions accounted for more than two-thirds of the total payments in volume in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in 2020. These numbers are based on both payments within Luxembourg, but also abroad, using bank debit/credit cards issued in the Grand Duchy. The source added that withdrawals at ATMs were excluded, meaning cash money is not represented in this statistic. According to a Europe-wide survey from 2019, Luxembourg was listed as a country where cash was used less often than in, for example, Germany or France.
