While Malaysia had made significant progress in the past few years in reducing gender inequality, the level of inequality between men and women is still high compared to other developed countries. In a survey on women's equality conducted by Ipsos in 2019, 42 percent of respondents felt that the area in which most progress had been made in achieving gender equality over the last 25 years was where women reached CEO/board positions. Within the last ten years, the share of women on the board of directors in Malaysia had increased to just under 29 percent in 2019.
