In a survey conducted by Ipsos in 2019, regarding the opinion of the flood defense infrastructure in selected countries across the Asia Pacific region, 68 percent of respondents stated that the flood defense infrastructure in China was either very or fairly good. Contrastingly, only 24 percent of the respondents stated that Japan's flood defense infrastructure was either very or fairly good.
