As a result of a magnitude 6.0 earthquake that occurred on January 16, 2019 in Davao Oriental, a PEIS intensity level of four was reported in the areas of Davao City, Mati City and Santa Josefa in the Philippines. The intensity scale was based on the PHIVOLCS Earthquake Intensity Scale, a seismic scale that measures the effect of an earthquake on a given area based on its relative effect to people, structures and objects in the surroundings. An intensity scale of four corresponds to a moderately strong effect, with earthquake generally felt by most people indoors and outdoors.
