Belgium: pneumococcal vaccination coverage 2004-2018

The Supreme Council of Health in Belgium recommends pneumococcal vaccination for people aged over 65, adults with certain health risks, and adults who suffer from certain health conditions. In 2018, less than five percent of Belgians aged over 45 have been vaccinated against pneumococcus in the last five years.

Furthermore, the coverage for pneumococcal vaccination in Belgian respondents was decreasing from 2004 to 2013. Once the results of the survey have been weighted to represent the entire population of Belgium, such a decrease was also found. However, the figures for 2018 were slightly higher than in 2013, leaving the possibility of a future rise in vaccination coverage.
