As of 2019 assisted suicide remains illegal in all parts of Great Britain despite multiple legal challenges in recent years. Although it is currently illegal, assisted suicide in cases of terminal illness has support in Great Britain, with 61 percent of the general British population and 67 percent of British healthcare professionals believing that it should be legal in these circumstances.

Respondents were asked: "In some cases, people suffering from terminal illnesses and extreme pain may wish to end their lives early of their own accord. Thinking about these cases, do you think assisting someone in their ending their life should be legal, or illegal in the UK?"
