Belgium: influenza vaccination coverage by education 2018

The annual flu shot is designed to protect against strains of human influenza that the experts expect to be in circulation. In 2018, the higher the educational level of Belgian respondents, the lower the influenza vaccination coverage. Indeed, nearly half of Belgian respondents with primary education had been vaccine at least once in their lifetime. On the other hand, 30 percent of respondents with higher education had a flu shot.

The flu vaccine in Belgium is recommended by the Supreme Council of Health. In 2018, it was calculated that 28 percent of the population with higher education had been vaccinated at least once. However, lower vaccination coverage was found in lower educational levels. For instance, in 2018, less than 22 percent of Belgians with lower secondary education had once received a flu shot.
