Global containerboard demand totaled 186 million tons in 2021. This accounted for roughly 44 percent of global paper and paperboard demand that year. The second most in-demand end-use was printing and writing paper, which had a total global demand of 84 million tons. Overall, packaging accounted for 56 percent of global paper demand in 2021.
