The total volume of natural gas discoveries made worldwide in 2018 amounted to approximately 4.6 billion barrels of oil equivalent. The volume of oil and gas discovered from 2015 onwards is notably smaller than the discoveries made prior to that year due to decreased exploration as a result of the fall in oil prices that occurred.
