From 2007 to 2016, the number of women and girls at risk of female genital mutilation (FGM) increased in Belgium. In 2016, it was estimated that 8,6 thousand women in the country were potential victims of excision.
Female genital mutilation (FGM) is a human rights violation and a form of gender-based violence that can cause many physical and psychological complications throughout life. Yet, this practice continues during vacations or directly within Belgian territory.

The "at-risk" group is calculated based on the prevalence of girls who are mutilated in their country of origin and their age.
