Chile currently has the lowest production costs of green hydrogen worldwide. As of 2020, the country's current renewables infrastructure allowed for green hydrogen generation ranging between 3.5 and 3.75 euros per kilogram. Over the next three decades, the number of countries that will be able to produce renewables-derived hydrogen for just one euro per kilogram is expected to increase significantly. The market for green hydrogen is still in its infant stage. Despite already having spawned interest by policy-makers and industry experts across the world for its potential of decarbonizing multiple emission-intensive sectors, less than one percent of current global hydrogen production is created through renewable electrolysis.
