By the end of 2022, the image of the Rassemblement National has significantly improved in working-class circles in France compared with 2014. Indeed, almost half of the French people belonging to this socio-professional category considered the far-right party to be close to their concerns (compared to slightly more than one third of the general population).
The audience of the Le Pen party has experienced contrasting developments with regard to socio-professional categories: while in 1988, Jean-Marie Le Pen's electorate was fairly interclassist, with a similar score among the different social classes, the party became increasingly successful among workers and employees in subsequent elections. While the proportion of workers voting for the Rassemblement National party in 1988 was 17 percent - a percentage not much different from what was observed among employees (14 percent), in the intermediate professions (15 percent), or among executives and intellectual professions (14 percent) - this rate has swelled enormously, rising to 39 percent during the 2017 presidential election.
