From 2012 to 2021, the number of patents granted by the European Patent Office to applicants in Norway more than doubled, reaching 424 that year. Despite the increase, the number of granted patents was significantly lower than in the neighboring countries Denmark and Sweden, which is related to the fact that far fewer patent applications were filed in Norway than in the other two countries.
