Forest fires in Indonesia typically take place in Borneo, about 134 thousand hectares of mineral areas were burnt in Central Kalimantan in 2019. The burning usually reaches its maximum point from July to October during Indonesia's dry season. Indonesia’s government has committed to reduce emissions by 29 percent until 2030. This ambition will be elusive if the forest fires continue to occur every year.
