In June 2019, the Minister of Justice entrusted the Inspection Générale de la Justice (IGJ) with the mission of reviewing the cases which have been definitively judged to date involving homicides related to domestic violence committed during 2015 and 2016.
The report resulting from this mission, which required the exploitation of 88 criminal files that led to a trial at the assizes, showed that in nearly two thirds of the cases, conjugal violence had already been suffered by the victims. In two out of five cases, the victim had already reported the violence to the police.

Supplementary notes
* The source adds the following information: "The investigation covered 88 cases, but the mission noted that seven out of 13 female perpetrators of spousal homicide stated that they had been victims of spousal violence by their partner prior to their crime. The mission chose to retain only one of the 13 female perpetrators' cases, as it was the only one to present domestic violence against the male victim."
"The study examined the 22 courts of appeal that had domestic homicides, committed in 2015 and 2016, that resulted in a final disposition in September 2019"
