Approximately 3.6 million men in Japan donated their blood in 2021, whereas only around 1.5 million women participated. That year, there was a total number of over five million people participating in blood donations.
The collection and supply of blood for use in transfusion in Japan are operated only by the Japanese Red Cross Society.
