Coal power generation worldwide grew to approximately 10,480 terawatt hours in 2023. This was the highest figure in the 24-year period shown and up from 10,288 terawatt hours the previous year. Coal electricity production in China is responsible for more than half of the worldwide total, having reached 5,742 terawatt hours in 2023.
