At the end of fiscal year 2019, the earnings per share of UltraTech cement were around 90 Indian rupees. The earnings were estimated to increase to around 185 rupees by fiscal year 2021. In 2018, the cement production capacity of India stood close to 460 million metric tons. The increase in cement demand in fiscal year 2019 was about 13 percent, which was the highest growth since 2010.
The high demand came from the infrastructure sector due to government's focus on metro, roads, airport and irrigation projects. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for low-cost house construction, demand from rural areas was also significant.
