As of April 2022, LPG bottling capacity across the northern region in India amounted to around 6.8 million metric tons per annum. Overall, the bottling capacity across the country stood at around 21.5 million metric tons per annum.
The government introduced the Ujjwala scheme to provide free and clean cooking fuel to every household. The aim of the scheme was to replace traditional cooking fuels in the rural areas such as firewood and cow dung as they contribute to environmental degradation and also have adverse health effects.
