Oil refining depth in Russia 2013-2023

Oil refining depth, an indicator used in Russia to assess efficiency of processing of petroleum products, gradually increased between 2013 and 2023. In 2023, the figure slightly fell to 84.1 percent. Russia's oil refinery capacity was measured at approximately 6.8 million barrels per day in 2023, which was the third-largest figure worldwide after the United States and China.

Refining depth, a term historically used in Russia to assess the efficiency of refining, "is calculated (in percentage terms) by substracting mazut output, losses, and own use of products, from the refinery total throughput, dividing it by throughput and multiplying by 100."
