According to an analysis of remittances in South Korea in 2018, around one-third percent of the value of all remittances came from foreigners working in Korea sending their wages home. Remittances to students or trainees abroad, and customs import fees each accounted for around 14 percent of the value. Overseas real estate investment and the outflow of the domestic assets of Koreans living abroad showed a high ratio of value to number of remittances, suggesting large amounts were transferred each time.
