This statistic represents the opinion of the French on the potential strengthening of controls and the restriction of civil liberties in the context of the terrorist threat as of July 2016. It appears that 40 percent of those surveyed declared themselves entirely in favor of the reinforcement of the security measures.
Between 2014 and 2017, France was the main target of terrorist attacks in Europe. The country suffered from three major terrorist attacks in 2015 and 2016. The November 2015 Paris attacks left the country traumatized and terrorism became one of the most important issue within the French society. Even though the impact of terrorist acts have decreased since 2017, France keeps being a country where terrorism is one of the most worrying topics.
