The cannabis industry in the United States is still relatively new. The uses of marijuana are varied, not only can it be used as a psychoactive substance but it can also produce byproducts such as hemp and CBD. There are more flexible regulations for the industrial production of hemp, particularly in terms of its cultivation and distribution as an agricultural product. CBD, also known as cannabidiol, is from the non-psychoactive portion of the plant and is used in a wide range of products from cosmetics to ingestible oils that are used to create a feeling of relaxation and calm. Still, personal cultivation of this type of cannabis is not widely recognized. During a survey in 2018, 38 percent of respondents aged 18 to 34 said that they would definitely or probably grow hemp or CBD if it was legal to do so. In contrast, only nine percent of respondents aged 65 years and older stated they would definitely or probably grow hemp or CBD personally, even if legal.
