Associations with sustainability in Denmark 2019

In 2019, 22 percent of Danes associated recycling, replanting, repairing, longer use of things, resource saving, consumption and food waste with sustainability. By comparison, the lowest share associated furniture and clothing as well as housing and interior related issues with sustainability. In general, 40 percent were moderately interested in sustainability, while 37 percent were even interested to a high extent.

Living more sustainably in Denmark

According to a survey conducted in 2019, Danes were willing to change their behaviors in many areas in order to live more sustainable. Most respondents stated to be willing to get better when it comes to waste sorting. The willingness to change water consumption and choose sustainable energy sources was high as well.

 What makes Danes hesitant to live more sustainably?

The same survey revealed that the most common reason against sustainable living seemed to be the price level. In 2019, 26 percent of respondents judged sustainability as too expensive. Another 23 percent named their lack of knowledge about which actions to take as a reason for hesitance towards sustainable living.
