According to a survey of 2017, most revenues of public cultural foundations in Italy came from ordinary revenues rather than from government grants. Ordinary revenues are earnings generated autonomously by the foundations, namely not related to government funding. They accounted for 62 percent of the public foundations' overall earnings in 2017.
