The fact that many single Chinese men struggle to find a dating partner has given rise to the dating and matchmaking service industry in China. According to a survey about online dating in the country in August 2018, approximately 51.6 percent of the respondents from the fourth-tier cities had used the telephone matchmaking services. In comparison, about 34.7 percent of the surveyed residents of the first-tier cities used such services.
