Canada's biggest greenhouse gas (GHG) emitter in 2022 was the Kearl Oil Sands Project in Alberta. The Imperial Oil and ExxonMobil-owned oil and gas field produced an estimated 20.6 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e) that year. All but two of the 10 biggest GHG polluters in Canada were oil and gas field in 2022. These were the Genesee coal-fired power station and Toronto Pearson International Airport. Combined, these 10 assets were responsible for an estimated 135 MtCO₂e.
