The government expenditure regarding the protection of the environment in Belgium was unevenly spread throughout the different environment-related sectors in 2017. Indeed, the waste treatment sector represented roughly 60 percent of the Belgian government's expenditure in 2017. Sewerage and the fight against pollution were sectors that were each responsible for nine percent of the total environmental protection expenditure in Belgium.
