The government expenditure regarding the protection of the environment in Belgium was unevenly divided between the three different levels of power in the country. The government in Belgium is divided on a federal, regional, and local level. In 2017, the local administrations spent roughly 2.4 billion euros on matters concerning the protection of the environment, whereas the regional administrations spent 1.3 billion euros. In terms of total expenditure, the Belgian federal administrations contributed the least to the protection of the environment in 2017.
