The average asking rent for office real estate in the United States decreased by less than one percent between the beginning of the pandemic and the third quarter of 2022. Nevertheless, effective rents decreased more, by over six percent, due to the various incentives landlords offered to occupiers. Examples for such incentives are rent-free periods or fit-outs.
