In a survey conducted among married women in Japan in July 2022, around 31 percent of respondents claimed to rarely show their spouses any physical affection in their marriage. The survey revealed that physical affection was among the least frequent activities among married couples in Japan, while sexual intercourse came in last.

Original question: "We would like to ask about your communication as a couple. Please answer A to K regarding your situation in the past year."
Questionnaires were distributed to respondents during individual visits and, in exceptional cases, mailed to absent households. Completed questionnaires were collected in person or submitted by mail or via the online survey system of the government.
