This graph illustrates a mapping of tidal, wave and thermal power of the seas installed in France in 2018, by power plant. We learn that 240 megawatts of tidal power capacity are installed on the site of La Rance, located between the municipalities of La Richardais and Saint-Malo in Brittany.

There are several types of marine energy, including wave energy, tidal power, and marinerothermic energy. wave energy or wave energy refers to energy production from waves, that is to say from successive waves born of the effect of wind on the surface of the sea and sometimes spread over very long distances. There are different devices to exploit this energy.
The tidal energy consists in exploiting the energy of the tides in coastal zones of strong tidal range (difference height of water between high tide and low tide succeeding). The tide phenomenon is induced by the gravitational effect on the ocean of two stars near our planet: the Moon and the Sun.
The thermal energy of the seas (ETM) or marinerhermic energy consists in exploiting the ocean temperature differential between surface and deep waters to produce electricity.
