In 2017, cement clinker imports to China amounted to 870.9 thousand metric tons, second only to 1549.8 metric tons in 2011. This figure increased to 1.76 million metric tons in the first quarter of 2018, more than double the total import volume of cement clinker in 2017. In response to the public concerns about environmental pollution and electricity shortages, the Chinese government has implemented plans to import more cement and cement clinkers from other countries.
