At the end of fiscal year 2023, the consolidated return on capital employed by Tata Steel Limited was about 11.6 percent. This was a decline from nearly 29 percent in the previous year. With an annual production capacity of around 23 million metric tons, it was the second largest steel producing company in India after SAIL, as of financial year 2022. The company's largest plant is located in Jharkhand.
