In fiscal year 2023, the growth rate of liquified petroleum gas distributors across India was 0.5 percent. The growth rate showed a decrease when compared to the previous year wherein the value was 1.7 percent. The government introduced the Ujjwala scheme to provide free and clean cooking fuel to every household. The aim of the scheme was to replace traditional cooking fuels in the rural areas such as firewood and cow dung as they contribute to environmental degradation and also have adverse health effects.
