In 2023, Hyundai Engineering and Construction Co., Ltd. (Hyundai E&C) had around 30 trillion South Korean won in sales revenue. Sales revenue had dropped to a low of 16.73 trillion won in 2018 before rising again.
A global construction company
Hyundai E&C was originally founded in 1947 under the name of Hyundai Civil Works Company. The firm engages in the construction and engineering of numerous structures that include residential housing, infrastructure such as bridges and roads, and power plants. Some of the company’s most notable foreign construction orders in the past were Penang Bridge in Malaysia and the Jamuna Multi-purpose Bridge in Bangladesh. In terms of new order value, Hyundai E&C was considered one of the leading construction company in South Korea.
Sustainability and investments
The company’s plans to increase investment toward research and development may reflect its need to stay up to date with technology regarding the renewable and nuclear energy power plants it is building both domestically and abroad. Hyundai E&C boasts of featuring on the Dow Jones Sustainability Management Index for 12 consecutive years as of the 2021 evaluation, and claims to be dedicated to sustainable practices. However, with disruptions in the procurement of raw materials in recent years, it remains to be seen how the company plans to overcome such challenges in the future.
