Distribution of Italians reported to live abroad 2021, by continent

Worldwide, the majority of Italians living abroad stayed in Europe. More specifically, 55 percent of Italians who left Italy moved to another country in Europe. America represented the second most common area of emigration, where 40 percent of expats lived.
In total, 5.7 million Italian people were reported living abroad in 2021, of which over three million stayed in Europe.
