Between 2012 to 2017, the share of companies that used Microsoft Office 365 grew significantly. The share of companies using Office 365 amounted to just under 0.5 percent in 2012, whereas in 2019 this increased to a total of 16.9 percent.
Office 365 is the subscription version of Microsoft Office which launched in 2011. The key differentiator between 365 and the more traditional Microsoft Office, is that it can scale easier in the volume of licenses for multiple people. Therefore, it makes it more attractive for businesses together with the security of not having to upgrade to newer versions.
