As of January 2021, over 70 thousand Italians lived in the Asian continent. The largest part of them had been living there for more than ten years (30 thousand individuals). Additionally, the second largest group was reported living in Asia for one to five years. In total, the emigration to Asia represented 1.3 percent of the number of Italians who left the country.
In the last years, the number of Italians reported to live abroad constantly rose. In 2021, 5.7 million Italians lived outside of the country, almost three million people more than in 2006.
