The majority of Russian e-wallet users made purchases using this digital payment method during online shopping, as per over 34 percent of respondents in 2019. The second most common purpose of e-wallets across the country was to pay for mobile services. Every fifth survey participant admitted to have transferred money from Russia and abroad using electronic wallets.
Digital wallets accounted for 36 percent of total online payments worldwide in 2018 and for nearly one quarter of them in Russia as of 2017. Over 82 percent of e-commerce users between 25 and 34 years old countrywide preferred to make transactions using this financial tool in 2019.
