Recycling rate of municipal packaging waste in the European Union 2021, by material
Paper and carboard packaging had the highest recycling rate for packaging in the European Union (EU-27) in 2021, at 82.5 percent. This was followed by glass and metallic packaging, each with a recycling rate of nearly 75 percent. The recycling rate of plastic packaging in EU averaged below 40 percent in 2021, but rates vary widely by country.
